The lodge at the Wind River Whitetail ranch

I would like to thank you for your interest in Wind River Whitetails and let you know about our passion for whitetail deer. I have been a whitetail hunter for the past 30 years. In 1993 I relocated from Oklahoma to Western Wyoming and have watched the Whitetail rapidly expand their ranges through most of Wyoming.

Our ranch is located 17 miles west of Riverton, Wyoming which is at the foothills for the Wind River Mountains and lies along the river bottoms of the Wind River. We had an opportunity to lease this ranch for hunting in 1996 and purchased it in 2003. My wife is also an avid sportswoman and we have embarked on a quest to enhance our hardwood habitat, improve our feed fields (alfalfa & corn) and increase our resident Whitetail herd. We have been successful in removing undesirable genes and improve our quality of bucks by 40 plus inches. After investing a lot of time and hard labor we have made the decision to start booking hunters for the 2009 season.

We have placed multiple trail cameras through out the river bottom of the ranch in order to evaluate our herd and its potential and have been amazed with the results of our labor of love. Over the years we have also placed open air tree stands and enclosed scent free blinds in strategic locations (deer trails and patterns) through out the river bottom.

The ranch is also unique as it borders the Wind River Indian Reservation on the south end with a heavily wooded thicket that is an excellent bedding area for the whitetail. We cannot hunt this area but it’s landlocked between our ranch and the Wind River and our herd has no pressure from hunters. We have a small ranch to Wyoming standards, but it is a long and narrow property with over a half mile of river bottom.

As you see in the pictures on both our website and brochure, we have harvested some very nice mature whitetails over the past several years. The real potential of our ranch is yet to be seen.

The whitetail season in our area is the month of November and we will be hosting a maximum of six hunters for the first three weeks of the season. If you would like the opportunity to harvest a very nice mature Wyoming whitetail buck please give us a call at 307-851-9122 or 307-856-4906 evenings or shoot us an email at mike@windriverwhitetails.com.
